The Best of Thank God It’s Friday the 13th Vol 1: The Paramount Era

00:0000:00

Happy Friday the 13th!

Here's a special "Best of" episode of TGIF13 chronicling: The Paramount Ear.

For those of you new to the podcast, TGIF13 is a:

Comedic Podcast chronicling our nostalgia for the Friday the 13th Franchise and other slice n' dice flicks.

Enter Vince Franco. Brock University Graduate in Film Studies and post-grad in Public Relations. Hot. Single. Gay. Horror film fan and long time friend of Christian...although he often wonders why?

Enter Christian Luciani. Brock University Graduate in Film Studies; Sheridan College Graduate in Film Production. Husband. Father of 3. Horror Film Fanatic and Amateur Filmmaker.

The duo met at Brock U and instantly bonded over their love of horror films. In third year they became housemates, and dragged two unsuspecting female housemates into the mix! When not playing Dragon's Lair, The Donkey Kong Country Trilogy, or attending class, they were watching or making horror movies. "Fatal Friends" and "Director's Cut" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrsbtjYiCvI) were just 2 examples of the terror they unleashed!

Cut to: 18 years later and the idea to launch a podcast aiming to recapture that nostalgic feeling for the Friday the 13th film series, and other slasher films of the 70s and 80s (with a few from the 60s and 90s thrown in as well).

You say that there are plenty of podcasts already out there? Well, what separates this duo from the batch is their take on the sub-genre. As Vince pointed out, you get a gay perspective, and then you get Christian's (which is a "tinge" on the loud and obnoxious side). Together, their goal is provide a comedic take/memory of these films. However condescending they may sound, it is still out of love for the genre.

Please listen regularly and feel free to comment.

In the college town of Bedford, several unsuspecting people are about to receive Season's Greetings- of terror.

Black Christmas is a stark and stylish exercise in suspense that turns everyone's favorite time of the year inside out. Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder star among an ill-fated houseful of sorority sisters celebrating the holiday season. Festivities turn fatal when obscene phone calls break the serenity and it becomes clear that a psychopath is stalking the house.

Predating Halloween and Friday the 13th by several years, Black Christmas effectively laid the groundwork for the murder thrillers that would follow through it's clever interplay of tension, shocks- and humor.

Producer/Director Bob Clark earned his reputation as a hitmaker for the first two Porky's films, and the celebrated  Sherlock Holmes caper Murder by Decree. Ironically, after bringing us the terror of Black Christmas, Clark  went on to take a lighter look at the holidays with the hilarious film, A Christmas Story.

So have yourself a scary little Christmas, It's not like the ones you used to know.
